Compensation Solutions PARTICIPATES IN THE
“BOOKS IN A BAG” INITIATIVE
Business Volunteer Council Program Promotes Family Literacy

OAKLAND, NEW JERSEY -
(JUNE 23, 2005) – Compensation Solutions, one of the tri-state area’s leading Professional Employer Organizations, recently participated in the
Books in a Bag program by collecting more than 350 books for distribution to pre-school children in local Head Start programs.
Books in a Bag is a family literacy initiative created by the Business Volunteer Council six years ago in response to a need identified by Bergen County Head Start, a federally funded early childhood education program for very low-income families. Because these families are struggling to pay for rent, utilities and food, books are far down the list of must-have items. Consequently, most children in the program have never owned a book of their own and very few read or are read to at home. To address the problem, employee volunteers at participating companies organize a collection of new children’s books, and then deliver bags filled with five books, a bookmark and a reading list to the children in various Head Start programs.
“Compensation Solutions is committed to supporting local communities with our time, our talents and our funds. As a Human Resource company, Compensation Solutions recognizes literacy as a core competency for the development of good communication skills that are the cornerstone for future success. And where better to start than with the youngest members of our families?” said Thomas J. Cioffe, President and CEO of Compensation Solutions.
